Glenside Hospital Museum, in Bristol has a nationally significant, unique collection relating to health care, mental illness and learning difficulties. Based in the 1881 church built for patients of Bristol's 1861 psychiatric hospital. It provides a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the subject of well-being through the prism of history. Exhibits include the drawings of Bristol Mental Hospital in the 1950s by Denis Reed which are a rare treat. In addition, it is on the site and has items from the First World War, 1915-1919, Beaufort War Hospital where Sir Stanley Spencer was an orderly and inspired to depict the hospital in paintings at the Sandham Memorial Chapel, Burghclere.
