The Hannoversche Straßenbahn-Museum (HSM) is a museum dedicated to trams and related vehicles. It is located in Wehmingen, a district in Sehnde, southeast of Hannover. The museum is privately run and operates on a voluntary basis.

Operational Vehicles at the Museum

As of 2010, the museum was able to display 55 vehicles, out of which 12 motor vehicles and 5 trailers were operational. These operational vehicles could be used for passenger traffic, providing visitors with a unique experience of travelling in historical vehicles.

Acquisition of New Vehicles

The museum also acquires 'new' vehicles when they can fill historical gaps in the collection, replace a corresponding vehicle in worse condition, or be used for driving with visitors. This ensures that the museum's collection is always growing and improving, providing visitors with a comprehensive and dynamic view of tram history.

The Hanover Tramway Museum in Sehnde, Germany offers visitors a glimpse into the history of public transportation in the Hanover region. Located in a former tram depot, the museum houses a collection of restored historic trams and other related exhibits. Visitors appreciate the well-maintained vintage vehicles and the opportunity to ride on some of the operational trams along a short stretch of track. The museum provides informative displays about the development of tram systems, though some guests note that more English translations would be helpful for international visitors. The volunteer staff is generally described as friendly and knowledgeable, adding value to the experience. While the museum may not appeal to everyone, it is particularly enjoyable for those interested in transportation history or vintage machinery. Some visitors mention that the museum is relatively small and can be thoroughly explored in a couple of hours. The outdoor area and the ability to board the trams are highlighted as positive aspects. However, a few reviewers note that the facility could benefit from modernization and more interactive exhibits to engage a broader audience. Overall, the Hanover Tramway Museum offers a specialized experience that is appreciated by enthusiasts and those curious about local transportation heritage.
