The museum was officially opened in 1999 and occupies a space of 1200 square meters. The exhibition space is divided into three rooms: Sala del Aceite, Sala Íbera, and Sala Romana. Each room is dedicated to a specific period or theme, providing visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the region's history and culture.
The museum's collection is composed of archaeological materials that have been gathered from excavations and private donations. These artifacts bear witness to the significant historical past of Almedinilla and the Subbética Cordobesa. The collection is structured into two central blocks of the permanent exhibition, one dedicated to the Iberian culture focused on the Cerro de la Cruz settlement and another to the Roman culture around the villa and necropolis of El Ruedo.
Among the museum's collection, several pieces stand out. These include the statue of the god Hypnos from the Roman villa of El Ruedo, another sculpture of the Hermaphrodite goddess, and different falcatas (a type of sword) found in the Iberian settlement. These artifacts provide a unique insight into the historical and cultural context of the region.
