The Ignacio Zuloaga Museum is a unique cultural destination located within the historic castle of Pedraza. This museum is dedicated to the works of the renowned Basque painter Ignacio Zuloaga. It is situated in the province of Segovia, in the region of Castilla y León, Spain. The museum offers visitors an opportunity to explore Zuloaga's artistic legacy in the very place where he found inspiration for his works.
The museum's collection was installed in 2011 when Ignacio Zuloaga's granddaughter, María Rosa Suárez Zuloaga, inherited the castle. She made available a diverse collection of works by Zuloaga, as well as pieces by other notable artists. These include a Christ by El Greco, a portrait of the Countess of Baena by Goya, and Flemish still lifes from the 17th century. This wide range of artworks provides a rich and varied experience for visitors.
The castle housing the Ignacio Zuloaga Museum has a rich history that adds to the overall experience of visiting the museum. The castle was originally built in the 13th century and underwent modifications in the 15th century by the Herrera family. It later came into the possession of the Fernández de Velasco family, who further modified the castle, resulting in the structure that visitors see today.
