Exhibition Areas and Dinosaur History
The museum building is divided into three large areas, each dedicated to one of the periods of the Mesozoic Era: the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous. Throughout the exhibition, visitors are provided with extensive information on various aspects of dinosaur life. These terrestrial reptiles first appeared about 230 million years ago and most species became extinct 65 million years ago.
Fossil Collection
The most significant part of the Jurassic Museum of Asturias is its collection of fossils from the Asturian coast. As of 2006, the museum housed around 8,000 fossils, including 150 Ichnites, 200 vertebrate remains, 103 plant fossils, 11 fragments of trunks, and over 6,000 invertebrate elements. This extensive collection provides a comprehensive look at the diverse life forms that once inhabited this region.
