The Meek Mansion, located in Cherryland, California, just north of Hayward, is a historic site listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This Victorian house, built in 1869 by William Meek, is a significant part of the region's history and offers a glimpse into the past.
The Meek Mansion was recognized as a California Point of Historical Interest in 1972 and was added to the National Register of Historic Landmarks in 1973. However, due to wear and tear from overuse, the mansion was closed in 1982. In 1991, the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD) began collaborating with the Hayward Area Historical Society (HAHS) to upgrade and reopen the mansion.
Upon completion of the ongoing renovations, the historical society plans to open the mansion as a house museum. Visitors will have the opportunity to take paid tours that focus on the different historical eras that the house has witnessed.
