The Marius Vazeilles Museum of Archaeology and Heritage is situated in the town of Meymac, in the Corrèze region of France. It is housed in one of the wings of the Saint-André de Meymac Abbey, a former Benedictine abbey, at the gates of the Millevaches plateau. The museum is named after Marius Vazeilles, a local figure of Meymac, who was a general guard of Waters and Forests, a self-taught naturalist, archaeologist, and ethnographer, as well as a political activist.
The museum's collections are spread over three levels and cover approximately 300 square meters. They illustrate the activities, rites, and customs of human societies that have succeeded in Haute Corrèze. The museum organizes one or more annual temporary exhibitions that may lead to a change in the presentation of the permanent collections. In front of the museum, a bronze bust of Marius Vazeilles, sculpted by Sébastien Langloÿs, was inaugurated in 2017.
The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions on local, regional, and archaeological or ethnographic themes. Since 2017, a larger exhibition is usually presented between May-June and October-November. These exhibitions are complemented by a cultural program of activities, including conferences, outings, and workshops.
