The Lamartine Museum, a recognized museum of France, was previously located in the historic Senecé hotel. However, it closed its doors on June 12, 2016, and its collection was subsequently transferred to the Ursulines Museum. Visitors interested in the Lamartine Museum should now head to the Ursulines Museum to view the collection.
The museum is dedicated to Alphonse de Lamartine, who was born in Mâcon in 1790. It showcases a variety of items including paintings, sculptures, personal objects, engravings, and drawings related to Lamartine. In addition, the museum also displays furniture, Aubusson tapestries, faience, and paintings that are not directly related to Lamartine. Visitors can also view excerpts from his writings and political speeches, notably on the abolition of slavery.
