The collections of the Musée national des Arts et Traditions Populaires were transferred to the Musée des Civilisations de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée in Marseilles after its closure.
In 2017, the City of Paris decided to refurbish and partially redesign the original building of the Musée national des Arts et Traditions Populaires in the Bois de Boulogne. The collections of the museum are planned to be relocated back to their original home. The renovation work is privately financed by the Group LVMH and led by architect Frank Gehry, in collaboration with Thomas Dubuisson, the grandson of the original architect, Jean Dubuisson. The building was expected to reopen in 2020.
