The Museo del Bijou, located in Casalmaggiore, is a unique museum in Italy that is dedicated to costume jewelry. It was established by the Municipality of Casalmaggiore in 1986. The museum is housed in the basement of the former Santa Croce college (Palazzo dei Barnabiti), which was built by the Barnabites in the 18th century.
The Museo del Bijou preserves and enhances the costume jewelry produced by local industries between the late 1800s and 1970. The museum showcases over 20,000 pieces of ornament and accessories, which were the samples of the factories in Casalmaggiore and now illustrate a century of costume and fashion history, from the Victorian era to the hippies.
In addition to its extensive collection, the Museo del Bijou also offers a workshop for educational and creative activities. These activities are aimed at students, families, groups, and people with disabilities. Please note that these workshops, as well as guided tour requests, need to be reserved in advance.
