A Living Museum for a Disappearing Craft Welcome to Museum Indruk, Meppel’s printing museum. The city has had a strong connection with printing for centuries, as the first printer settled here in 1965. Meppel then grew into a true printing town, with numerous printing houses. Step into the world of printing and experience the craft up close. Smell the ink, explore drawers filled with type, and see the large machines that once brought newspapers, books and posters to life. Discover the stories behind the trade, admire historic printing presses and try your hand at printing yourself at Museum Indruk! At Museum Indruk, you can walk among historic printing presses and see how this craft is still very much alive. And the best part? You don’t just have to look from behind a barrier—you can actually get involved! Feel how heavy a press can be, discover what a screen-printing frame is, and learn how precisely you need to work to achieve the desired result. The volunteers work alongside you and guide you step by step, allowing you to experience the craft just as they themselves learned it. In the children’s printing workshop, you can discover the craft in a fun and playful way. You can marble paper, make your own paper, create a little booklet, or set and print your own name using lead type. And of course, you can take your handmade creations home with you. So roll up your sleeves and get to work!
