The Museum of Independence, known as Kurtuluş Müzesi in Turkish, is a historical museum located in the city of Eskişehir, Turkey. It was established on October 29, 2016, and is situated in the Odunpazarı district. The museum is dedicated to the Turkish War of Independence, making it a significant site for those interested in Turkish history.
The Museum of Independence is housed in the historic Mestanoğlu Halil Mansion, which was restored for this purpose in a project in June 2015. The fact that İsmet İnönü, the commander of the Turkish forces in the First Battle of İnönü (1921), stayed in this mansion played a significant role in the selection of the museum location. This adds a layer of historical significance to the museum, making it a site of interest for history enthusiasts.
The Museum of Independence utilizes modern technology to present information and documents. A section on the ground floor is dedicated for children's use. The events of the Turkish War of Independence (1919–1923) and the Lausanne Conference (1922-1923) are narrated using touch screens, providing an interactive and engaging experience for visitors of all ages.
