The Museo de Historia Natural de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia (MHN) is a university museum situated in Bogota. It is located within the campus of the Ciudad Universitaria, making it easily accessible for visitors. The museum is part of the Faculty of Sciences and is housed in the building of the Institute of Natural Sciences.
The museum offers a variety of exhibits for visitors to explore. It has nine permanent exhibition rooms, each showcasing different aspects of natural history. In addition to these, there is a room dedicated to temporary exhibitions, allowing for a rotation of new and exciting displays. The museum also features green areas outside, providing a serene environment for visitors to relax and enjoy.
In 2020, the museum launched a virtual tour of Colombian biodiversity, with the support of the District Institute of Cultural Heritage (IDPC) and the Colombian Association for Research and Conservation of Ecosystems (ACOICE). This virtual tour allows visitors to learn about the characteristics of Colombian biogeographic zones, as well as its ecosystems and fauna, from the comfort of their own homes.
The museum offers a range of educational activities for visitors. These include thematic talks, guided tours, and workshops, all aimed at promoting the dissemination of Colombian environmental heritage. As such, the museum serves as a valuable learning space for the community, providing opportunities for visitors to deepen their understanding of natural history and environmental conservation.
