National Museum of Fine Arts of Asunción

The National Museum of Fine Arts, also known as Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Asunción, is a significant cultural institution located in Asunción, Paraguay. Established in 1909, the museum has a rich history and has been a cornerstone of Paraguayan culture for over a century.

Origins of the Museum's Collection

The museum's collection originated from the personal collection of Juan Silvano Godoy, a Paraguayan art collector. Godoy's collection, which spans from the 17th to the 20th century, includes a significant number of European and Paraguayan paintings and sculptures, providing a comprehensive overview of the art history of these regions.

Art Collection at the Museum

The museum boasts a collection of over 650 works of art, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and photographs, primarily from Paraguayan artists. In addition to these, the museum also houses collections of ancient coins and furniture, as well as some personal belongings of Juan Silvano Godoy, the museum's founder.
