The National Museum of Natural History in Brunoy, Essonne, Île-de-France, houses the General Ecology Center. This research center is situated in a park spanning approximately 4.7 hectares, which is recognized as a sensitive natural area of the Essonne department. The center's facilities include an old mansion and greenhouses, providing a unique setting for research.
In 2021, the General Ecology Center of Brunoy is set to transform into the "Campus Museum Brunoy". This change is a result of a financing and partnership agreement signed in 2020 between the National Museum of Natural History, the Île-de-France Region, the Essonne department, the Val d'Yerres Val de Seine Agglomeration Community, and the city of Brunoy. The agreement includes plans for the rehabilitation of the site and the creation of a Biodiversity-Health pole ("BioDiSan"), where all the museum's researchers will work together.
The "Petit Château" is set to undergo renovations and will serve as a space for training and knowledge dissemination. This includes hosting public events, school visits, traveling exhibitions, and seminars. Additionally, a new research building, compliant with environmental standards and open to the public ("ERP"), will be constructed. This building will house all the research teams, offering 2,700 square meters of useful space. It will feature shared laboratories, cutting-edge platforms and equipment, office spaces, and conference rooms. It will also have practical work rooms that can accommodate all staff and schoolchildren.
