The New York Museum of Transportation (NYMT) is a non-profit organization that was established in 1975. It is located at 6393 East River Road, in the suburb of Rush in Rochester. The museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of transportation in New York and beyond.
The NYMT is connected to the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum by a private rail line that spans two miles. This rail line was built by volunteers and serves as a demonstration railway. Both museums use this railway to offer train rides, allowing visitors to experience their collections of vintage railroad equipment firsthand.
The NYMT is open to the public every Sunday throughout the year, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The museum offers trolley rides from May through October only, using either car 161 or 168. All trolleys operate from the NYMT to the Midway station.
