The Northeast Historic Film (NHF) is a unique destination located in Bucksport, Maine. It is a regional moving image archive that is dedicated to the collection, preservation, and sharing of film and video materials related to the people of Northern New England. This includes the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. The archive is a nonprofit organization that works tirelessly to safeguard these important pieces of history.
The Northeast Historic Film offers a variety of programs for the public. These include screenings of films from their collection, online exhibits, and events at various locations such as art museums, film festivals, and agricultural fairs. These programs provide an opportunity for the public to engage with the rich history of Northern New England through the medium of film and video.
In 1992, with the help of members and friends, the Northeast Historic Film bought the Alamo Theatre in downtown Bucksport. The cinema is not only a piece of history itself, but it also serves as a venue for the screening of current films every weekend. In addition, the theatre hosts a number of special events, including screenings of old films projected in their original format. This provides a unique opportunity for visitors to experience films as they were originally intended to be seen.
