Bucksport is a historic town located along the Penobscot River in Hancock County, Maine. Founded in 1762 by Colonel Jonathan Buck, the town has a rich maritime and industrial heritage.

The community was once an important shipbuilding center and played a significant role in Maine's paper-making industry, notably as the site of a major paper mill that operated for over 80 years. The town's waterfront features the prominent Fort Knox State Historic Site, built in the mid-1800s to protect the Penobscot River Valley.

Bucksport's downtown area preserves much of its 19th-century architecture and includes the Bucksport Historical Society Museum, which helps maintain and share the town's cultural heritage. Today, Bucksport combines its historical significance with a developing arts and cultural scene, hosting various community events and maintaining several historical landmarks that tell the story of coastal Maine's development.
