The Panaʻewa Rainforest Zoo, situated in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, is a unique attraction in the United States as it is the only zoo located within a rainforest. Biodiversity at Panaʻewa Rainforest Zoo

The Panaʻewa Rainforest Zoo is home to over 80 species of animals, providing a diverse range of wildlife for visitors to observe. In addition to the animal exhibits, the zoo also features more than 40 different species of plants, flowers, and trees, further enhancing the rainforest experience.

Petting Zoo at Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo

Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo also features a small petting zoo near the main pavilion and playground. Operated by the Friends of the Pana’ewa Zoo with the assistance of volunteers, the petting zoo is open every Saturday from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM. This interactive experience allows visitors to have brief interactions with various animals including rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs, ponies, tortoises, and goats.
