The Plainsman Museum, situated in Aurora, Nebraska, is a historical institution that concentrates on the history of the settlers and their descendants in the central Nebraska plains region. This museum provides a unique opportunity for visitors to delve into the past and understand the lives and experiences of the early settlers in this region.
The Plainsman Building, the main center of the museum, houses the majority of the museum's collections. Visitors can explore a replica sod house and log cabin, and a miniaturized reproduction of Main Street, offering a glimpse into life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Agricultural Building, situated directly behind the Plainsman Building, was constructed in 1986 and encompasses an actual homestead. It boasts a large collection of farm machinery, including horse-drawn implements like plows and threshers, an early steam-powered tractor, various tractors from the 1920s to the present day, and a collection of vintage automobiles from the 1920s and 30s.
The Fairview School, a one-room schoolhouse, was relocated to the museum in 1981. It showcases authentic 19th-century educational tools and desks, providing a unique insight into the educational practices of the past. The Fairview School is also located behind the Plainsman Building.
