The museum is based in the old Severino Torregrosa ceramics factory, which was in operation between 1902 and 1975. After it closed, the artist Facundo Senpau turned the building into his art gallery. In 1979, German ethnologist Ilse Schütz visited Agost and visited Senpau's workshop. Ilse fell in love with Agost's pottery and carried out important research and conservation work, which resulted in the Pottery Museum being created in 1981. The building preserves the original factory facilities, such as the Arab kilns, the clay decanting basins and the workshop area, giving visitors a unique experience as they learn about the pottery manufacturing process.
