The Roman city of Ammaia, now in ruins, is nestled in the heart of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park. This park is a mountainous region in eastern Portugal that stretches into Spain. Research and Preservation of Ammaia

Systematic research on the site of Ammaia began in 1994. The Fundação Cidade de Ammaia has been organizing excavations, studies, and management of the site since 1997. Since 2007, the University of Évora has been providing scientific guidance. This ongoing research and preservation work ensures that tourists can continue to learn about and appreciate the historical significance of Ammaia.

Museum at Quinta do Deão

The Quinta do Deão farm houses a museum where visitors can view a number of archaeological finds from Ammaia. This provides a tangible connection to the past and allows tourists to gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of the Roman era in Portugal.
