The Spohr Museum has had several locations throughout its history. From 1959 to 1977, it was housed in the Murhardsche Library. It then moved to the Palais Bellevue from 1977 to 2009, and later to the south wing of the Kassel Kulturbahnhof from 2009 to 2023. In December 2017, it was announced that the museum would return to the Palais Bellevue, and it reopened there on September 2, 2023.
The first floor of the Spohr Museum offers an introduction to Louis Spohr's life. The permanent exhibition rooms display a collection of furniture, instruments, and scores that belonged to the musician. Visitors have the opportunity to engage with Spohr's music through sound recordings and can also interact at multimedia stations.
