Historical Context of the Temple's Construction

The temple des Bastides was constructed by Calvinists in 1607, during the end of Henry IV's reign. The temple was built outside the city walls, a decision influenced by the destruction of the first Protestant temple by fire and the subsequent prohibition of practicing Protestantism within the city. This historical context adds a layer of significance to the temple, making it a site of interest for visitors.

Reopening of the Museum and Current Use

In 2004, thanks to the initiative of local residents and the support of the municipality, the museum was reopened to the public. Today, the museum occupies the first floor of the building, while the ground floor hosts temporary exhibitions. This allows visitors to not only learn about the history of the region and the bastides, but also to enjoy a variety of exhibitions throughout the year.
