This is the place where Peter Paul Rubens, one of the most renowned Baroque artists of the 17th century, lived and worked. A visit to the garden, the Rubens Experience and the library takes you from one Rubens story to the next. The artist’s house is temporarily closed for renovation and is not accessible. At the Rubens Experience, you can see Rubens’ famous self-portrait and discover who Rubens truly was. Through an audiovisual presentation, interactive applications and artworks, you get to know both the artist and the man behind the brush. For Rubens and his family, the garden was a place to meet family and friends, as well as a playground for the children. Rubens himself contributed to the design. Today, more than 22,000 bulbs, perennials, trees, hedges and shrubs grow here. From this green oasis in the heart of the city, visitors enjoy a magnificent view of Rubens’ house — the only piece of architecture by Rubens that has been preserved anywhere in the world.

Rubenshuis has 2 ratings.
Rubenshuis, located in Antwerp, Belgium, offers visitors a chance to explore the former home and studio of the renowned Flemish Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens. The museum provides an insight into the artist's life and work, displaying some of his paintings and those of his contemporaries. The restored 17th-century building itself is a point of interest, with period furnishings and decor that reflect the lifestyle of the wealthy during Rubens' time.
Visitors generally appreciate the opportunity to see where Rubens lived and worked, finding the experience informative and atmospheric. The garden, designed in the style of the period, is often mentioned as a pleasant feature. Many reviewers commend the audio guide for providing detailed information about the artworks and the history of the house.
However, some visitors note that the collection of Rubens' original works is limited, with many being copies or works by his students. This can lead to disappointment for those expecting to see a large number of Rubens' masterpieces. Additionally, some find the museum relatively small compared to other art museums, which may not justify the entrance fee for all visitors.
The staff is generally described as helpful and knowledgeable, contributing to a positive experience. However, during peak times, the museum can get crowded, which may impact the viewing experience.
Overall, Rubenshuis offers a valuable experience for those interested in art history and Rubens' life, but visitors should manage their expectations regarding the extent of original Rubens works on display.
Erg leuk museum.
