The Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS) is a historical society based in Cleveland, Ohio. It operates the Cleveland History Center, which is a collection of museums located in University Circle. The society was founded in 1867, making it the oldest cultural institution in Northeast Ohio. The focus of WRHS is on the history of the Western Reserve, and it celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2017.
The Cleveland History Center, operated by the Western Reserve Historical Society, houses several facilities. These include the Research Library, the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum, the Chisholm Halle Costume Wing which is home to fashion exhibits, two historic mansions, and the Kidzibits Family Hands-on Gallery. The center also houses the administrative offices of the society.
In 1957, the Western Reserve Historical Society received the Jonathan Hale homestead in Bath, Ohio. The society now operates the 90-acre Hale Farm & Village, a living history museum. The museum depicts life in the 19th century through agricultural practices and everyday craft and trade demonstrations such as glassblowing, pottery, spinning and weaving, among others.
