Anamosa is a city located in Jones County, Iowa, United States. The city is known as the "Pumpkin Capital of Iowa" due to its annual Pumpkinfest celebration and its historical connection to Grant Wood, one of America's most famous regionalist painters, who was born near the city.
Anamosa's cultural significance is enhanced by its rich architectural heritage, including several well-preserved 19th-century buildings in its downtown district. The city is also home to the Anamosa State Penitentiary, a historic correctional facility built in the 1870s using locally quarried limestone.
