Barrio Anglo is a historic neighborhood located in Fray Bentos, Uruguay, that grew around the former Liebig's Extract of Meat Company factory, later known as the Anglo Meat Processing Plant. This industrial complex, which operated from 1863 to 1979, played a crucial role in Uruguay's economic development and helped shape the cultural identity of the region.
The neighborhood features distinctive industrial architecture and worker housing that reflects the British influence on its development. The former factory complex is now part of the Industrial Fray Bentos Cultural-Industrial Landscape, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015, recognizing its significance in the history of food production and industrial heritage.
The site today serves as a museum complex that preserves and showcases the industrial heritage of Uruguay.
