Birstall is a large village and civil parish located in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. With a rich industrial heritage dating back to the Industrial Revolution, Birstall played a significant role in Yorkshire's textile manufacturing history. The village center retains much of its historical character with traditional Yorkshire stone buildings.
Notable for being the birthplace of Joseph Priestley, the 18th-century theologian and scientist who discovered oxygen, Birstall combines its historical significance with modern amenities. The village features several historical buildings, including the market place and St Peter's Church, which dates back to the 16th century.
Today, Birstall serves as both a residential community and a local commercial center, with good transport links to larger cities like Leeds and Bradford.
