Brandy Station is a historic unincorporated community in Culpeper County, Virginia. The location gained significant historical importance during the American Civil War, particularly as the site of the Battle of Brandy Station on June 9, 1863, which was the largest predominantly cavalry engagement of the war. The battle marked a turning point in the evolution of the Union cavalry.
The area served as a winter encampment for the Union Army in 1863-64, during which time the region became an important strategic location along the Orange and Alexandria Railroad. Today, Brandy Station preserves much of its Civil War heritage, with various historical markers and preserved battlefields that help tell the story of this pivotal period in American history. The community continues to maintain its rural character while serving as an important destination for those interested in Civil War history.
