Burwash is a historic village located in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in East Sussex, England. The village is perhaps best known as the home of author Rudyard Kipling, who lived at Bateman's, a 17th-century house now owned by the National Trust, from 1902 until his death in 1936.
The village maintains much of its medieval character, with many timber-framed buildings lining its High Street. The area's rich history dates back to the Saxon period, and the village's St Bartholomew's Church, parts of which date from the 12th century, stands as a testament to its long-standing heritage. The surrounding countryside, characterized by rolling hills and woodland, reflects the traditional Wealden landscape that has inspired artists and writers throughout history.
