Capilla del Señor is a historic town located in the Buenos Aires Province of Argentina, approximately 80 kilometers from the capital city. Founded in 1735, it was declared the first National Historic Town of Argentina in 1994 due to its well-preserved colonial architecture and cultural heritage. The town maintains much of its 18th and 19th-century character through its buildings, streets, and plaza.
Its cultural significance is reflected in its traditional gaucho culture, historic structures, and the preservation of local customs. The town center features notable buildings such as the Parish Church of Our Lord (Iglesia Parroquial del Señor), built in 1780, which gave the town its name. Capilla del Señor has also been an important center for literary and intellectual development, having been home to the first public library in the countryside of Buenos Aires Province.
