Dragoon is a small unincorporated community located in Cochise County, Arizona, situated in the Dragoon Mountains of southeastern Arizona.
The area has a rich history connected to Native American culture, particularly the Chiricahua Apache, who used these mountains as a stronghold during the Apache Wars of the late 19th century. The community was named after the Dragoon Mountains, which in turn were named after the U.S. Dragoons (mounted infantry) who served in the region.
The area is known for its distinctive rock formations, archaeological sites, and its connection to the frontier history of the American Southwest. The nearby Texas Canyon, with its unique granite boulder formations, adds to the area's geological and cultural significance.
