Emory is a small city serving as the county seat of Rains County in east Texas. Located approximately 75 miles east of Dallas, this rural community maintains a traditional small-town atmosphere characteristic of East Texas.

The city was named after Emory Rains, a prominent Texas politician and legislator of the Republic of Texas era. While modest in size, Emory serves as an important administrative and cultural center for the surrounding agricultural region. The area's history is tied to farming, ranching, and early Texas settlement patterns, though today it also functions as a gateway to nearby recreational areas including Lake Fork, known for its bass fishing.
