Fiddletown is a historic unincorporated community located in Amador County, California. Originally established during the California Gold Rush in 1849, it was initially called Fiddletown because a number of its early settlers were violinists.
The community played a significant role in California's gold mining history and was also home to a notable Chinese community during the 19th century, as evidenced by the preserved Chew Kee Store, which operated from 1850 to 1913. The town's historic district features several preserved buildings from the Gold Rush era, including the Fiddletown Community Center, which was originally constructed in 1856. Today, Fiddletown is a small rural community that maintains its historic character while being situated in an area known for its wineries and agricultural activities.
