Greendale is a village located in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. Founded in 1938 as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal, Greendale was one of three "Greenbelt" communities planned and built by the federal government.
The village was designed as a planned community with a unique architectural style and layout that emphasized both residential comfort and connection to nature. The original village center, now known as the Historic District, features distinctive Colonial Revival architecture and remains largely preserved, earning its place on the National Register of Historic Places.
Today, Greendale maintains its small-town character while serving as a suburban community within the greater Milwaukee metropolitan area. The village continues to honor its historical roots through various cultural events and preservation efforts of its original buildings and community spaces.
