Hatfield is a historic town in Hertfordshire, England, located approximately 20 miles north of London. The town is perhaps best known for its association with the Tudor period of English history, particularly through Hatfield House, a Jacobean country house built in 1611 on the site of what was once Hatfield Palace. The original palace was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth I, and the location where she learned of her accession to the throne in 1558.

Beyond its royal connections, Hatfield developed significantly during the 20th century as one of Britain's first New Towns, designed to accommodate the growing population after World War II. The town also has strong aviation heritage, being the home of de Havilland Aircraft Company, which produced several pioneering aircraft designs. Today, Hatfield combines its rich historical legacy with modern developments, including the University of Hertfordshire's main campus, which contributes to the town's educational and cultural landscape.
