Hoover is a suburban city located in Jefferson and Shelby counties in north central Alabama. Founded in the 1960s and incorporated in 1967, it has grown from a small community to become one of Birmingham's largest suburbs. The city is named after William H. Hoover, who served as an insurance company executive and was instrumental in the area's early development.

Hoover experienced significant growth in the late 20th century, partly due to its proximity to Birmingham and the development of the Riverchase Galleria, one of the largest shopping centers in the Southeast. The city maintains several parks and recreational facilities, including the Aldridge Gardens, a 30-acre public garden that showcases local flora and hosts cultural events.

While Hoover is primarily residential and commercial in nature, it has developed its own distinct cultural identity while maintaining strong connections to the greater Birmingham metropolitan area's cultural scene.
