Kudirkos Naumiestis is a historic town located in southwestern Lithuania, near the border with Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast. The town is named after Vincas Kudirka, a significant Lithuanian national revival activist, writer, and composer who wrote the national anthem of Lithuania. Originally known as Naumiestis (meaning "new town"), it was renamed in 1934 to honor Kudirka, who lived, worked, and died here.
The town has preserved its 19th-century architecture and layout, reflecting its development during the Russian Empire period. A notable landmark is the Vincas Kudirka Museum, housed in the building where the national hero spent his last years. The town's cultural heritage is closely tied to the Lithuanian national awakening movement of the late 19th century, making it an important site for Lithuanian cultural history.
