Latina is a city in the Lazio region of central Italy, located approximately 62 kilometers south of Rome. Founded in 1932 during the Fascist period under the name Littoria, it was renamed Latina after World War II. The city represents a significant example of Italian rationalist architecture and urban planning from the 1930s.
The surrounding area, known as the Pontine Plain, was transformed from marshland into agricultural territory through major land reclamation projects. Today, Latina is an important agricultural and industrial center, with a rich cultural heritage that includes both its modern architectural identity and archaeological finds from the Roman period. The city features several museums and cultural institutions that preserve and showcase its unique history, from its foundation to contemporary times.
