Lawrenceburg is the county seat of Lawrence County, Tennessee, located in the south-central part of the state. The city was named after War of 1812 Navy Captain James Lawrence and was established in 1819. Known as a historic community with strong agricultural roots, Lawrenceburg played a significant role in the early development of Tennessee.
The city has preserved much of its historical character through its downtown area, which features various architectural styles from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The area is also known for its connection to David Crockett, who served as a justice of the peace and operated a water-powered grist mill, powder mill and distillery in Lawrence County. Today, Lawrenceburg maintains its small-town charm while serving as a cultural and economic hub for the surrounding rural communities.
