Lévis is a city located in eastern Quebec, Canada, situated on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, opposite Quebec City. The city, with its rich maritime and industrial heritage, played an important role in the development of Quebec's economy and culture.
Founded in the 19th century, Lévis has preserved much of its historical character, particularly evident in its old quarter with its traditional Quebec architecture. The city was named after François-Gaston de Lévis, a French military commander who served in New France.
Today, Lévis serves as an important economic center in the Quebec City metropolitan area, known for its industrial sector, including the Davie Shipyard, the largest in Canada. The city offers panoramic views of Quebec City and the St. Lawrence River, and maintains several historical sites that reflect its cultural heritage.
