Mey is a small village located in Caithness, in the far north of mainland Scotland. The settlement is primarily known for the Castle of Mey, originally known as Barrogill Castle, which dates back to the 16th century.
The castle gained particular significance when Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother purchased and restored it in 1952, after the death of her husband King George VI. The castle and its gardens became her beloved summer residence, where she would spend time each year until her passing in 2002.
The area around Mey showcases the rugged beauty of the northern Scottish coastline, with views across the Pentland Firth to the Orkney Islands. The local landscape is characterized by open farmland and coastal scenery, reflecting the traditional agricultural heritage of Caithness.
