Monguí is a historic colonial town located in the Boyacá department of Colombia, situated at an altitude of approximately 2,900 meters above sea level. Founded in 1601, the town is known for its well-preserved colonial architecture and is officially recognized as one of Colombia's heritage towns (Pueblos Patrimonios).
The town center features the impressive Basílica of Our Lady of Monguí, a church and monastery complex built between the 17th and 18th centuries using local sandstone. Monguí is also known for its traditional craftsmanship, particularly the manufacture of leather footballs, which earned it the nickname "the football capital of Colombia." The town's cultural heritage is reflected in its religious art collection, colonial buildings, and traditional festivals that celebrate both religious and cultural traditions.
