Nagato Province (長門国, Nagato no kuni) was a historical province of Japan located in what is now the western part of Yamaguchi Prefecture. The province played a significant role in Japanese history, particularly during the late Edo period. It was the home province of the powerful Mōri clan, who controlled much of western Japan during the Sengoku period.
The area was known for its strategic location along the Kanmon Straits, which connected the Seto Inland Sea with the Sea of Japan. This geographical position made it important for maritime trade and cultural exchange. The region has preserved various historical sites and cultural artifacts that reflect its rich samurai heritage and traditional Japanese culture.
Today, the area continues to maintain its historical importance while serving as a gateway to understanding Japan's feudal past.
