Nexø is the second-largest town on the Danish island of Bornholm, located on the eastern coast. Historically, it developed as an important fishing port and was once one of Denmark's largest fishing harbors. The town retains much of its historical character with its well-preserved old town featuring traditional half-timbered houses and narrow streets.
Nexø has experienced significant historical events, including severe damage during World War II bombings, but has since been rebuilt while maintaining its cultural heritage. The town continues to be an active fishing port and has developed a cultural scene that reflects both its maritime heritage and its role in contemporary Danish island life. Local granite, known as Nexø sandstone, has been quarried in the area and used in significant buildings throughout Denmark.
