Notodden is a town and municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The town developed significantly during the early 20th century as an important industrial center, particularly known for its hydroelectric power production and the establishment of Norsk Hydro's first industrial facility for nitrogen fixation. This industrial heritage earned Notodden, along with neighboring Rjukan, a place on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2015 as part of the Rjukan-Notodden Industrial Heritage Site.
The town has also made its mark in contemporary culture as the birthplace of the Notodden Blues Festival, one of Europe's leading blues music festivals, which has been held annually since 1988. The combination of its industrial history and cultural present makes Notodden an interesting destination for those interested in both Norwegian heritage and contemporary arts.
