Oatlands is a historic town located in the Midlands region of Tasmania, Australia, situated approximately 84 kilometers north of Hobart. Established in the early 1820s as a military outpost, it developed into an important colonial administrative center.
The town is notable for having the largest collection of colonial sandstone buildings in Australia, with many structures dating back to the Georgian era. Among its most distinctive landmarks is the Callington Mill, built in 1837, which is the only fully restored colonial windmill in the Southern Hemisphere.
Oatlands preserves much of its colonial heritage through its architecture and streetscapes, making it a significant site for understanding Tasmania's colonial history. The town's cultural heritage is reflected in its well-preserved military complex, courthouse, and various other historic buildings that once served the colonial administration.
