The Pueblo of Acoma, also known as "Sky City," is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in North America, located approximately 60 miles west of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Situated atop a 367-foot sandstone mesa, this Native American community has been home to the Acoma Pueblo people for more than 800 years.
The pueblo is known for its traditional architecture of adobe houses and kivas, built without modern construction tools. The Acoma people maintain their rich cultural heritage through their traditional pottery making, language, and ceremonial practices. The Haak'u Museum and Cultural Center, located at the pueblo, serves as a gateway for visitors to learn about Acoma history, culture, and art. The pueblo's unique location and cultural significance led to its designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1960.
