Ruidoso is a mountain resort village located in the Sierra Blanca mountain range of south-central New Mexico. Named after the Rio Ruidoso, Spanish for "noisy river," this community sits at an elevation of around 7,000 feet. The area has a rich cultural heritage influenced by Native American, Hispanic, and Western American traditions.
Originally home to the Mescalero Apache, the region began developing as a settlement in the late 1800s. Today, Ruidoso combines its natural surroundings with cultural attractions, being known for its horse racing at the Ruidoso Downs Race Track and the historic art scene that reflects the diverse cultural influences of the American Southwest. The village serves as a gateway to outdoor recreation while maintaining its small-town character and artistic community.
